n00b guide into the Dutch Hacker Scene
This submission is hand-typed and might contain human errors :D Because I know a volunteer is reading this and I don't want your brain fried with AI-slop submissions. Here it goes: So, you've decided to figure out if Cyber security in any way shape or form is what you want. You are a student or someone looking for a career change. It can be intimidating and scary to know where to start and to actually physically go somewhere if you don't know what to expect. Especially if you are not that outgoing type of person and groups of people make you a bit anxious. But hey! You made it to BSides, congrats! I have spoken to a lot of people lately who told me; “if only I had known earlier that this is my crowd and there are more people like me.” Most of the time, people sort of tumble into a cool hacker space, an awesome hacker camp or hotel or just don’t ever figure it out at all. I think that last thing is a shame, and this talk is an effort to try and change that. Let me be your n00b guide into the Dutch Hacker scene. (and maybe also a bit abroad). In this talk I love to share an overview of the landscape of cool events, places to go, types of different things you can do as a starting hacker and give you some insides on where you can start. Next to the types of events, I will also share great resources and online networks where you can go to figure out what works for you. The hacker scene is a VERY inclusive space if you know where to actually go :) Want to find your people? Let me help you!
